Triple the Chaunacops Fun
Red (or should we say pink?) alert to Chaunacops fans! In this highlight video, we bring you not one, not two, but THREE Chaunacops spotted during our Ala ʻAumoana Kai Uli (NA154) expedition. Our Corps of Exploration spotted these sea toads while exploring Unnamed Seamount 12 in Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument- roughly 60 nautical miles northwest of Hōlanikū (Kure Atoll). These anglerfish belong to the family Chaunacidae. They are bottom-dwelling ambush predators best known for their bioluminescent lures.

Ocean Exploration Trust and partners will conduct a telepresence-enabled expedition to explore unseen deep-sea habitats aboard E/V Nautilus with ROV and seafloor mapping operations in the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument (PMNM) focused on the largely unexplored northwestern section of the Monument.
