In this lesson, students become the researchers of their own deep-sea creature in order to increase their familiarity with ocean life. Students will investigate deep-sea creatures to learn more about them and their adaptations to sometimes extreme environments. After researching different organisms, students will, by the end of the lesson, create a page for a classbook or gallery walk, referencing a wide variety of resources.
Objectives & learning outcomes
- Research Skills: Students will develop research skills by utilizing various resources (books, websites, documentaries) to gather information about specific marine animals.
- Habitat Understanding: Students will explain the different habitats of marine animals and how these environments impact their behavior and life cycles.
- Adaptations: Students will analyze the adaptations of selected marine animals that enable them to survive in the deep sea environment.
- Conservation Awareness: Students will understand the importance of marine conservation and discuss ways to protect marine ecosystems and the species that inhabit them.
