The MxD SeaCam

Developed in partnership between DeepSea and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), the MxD SeaCam is a cutting-edge 4K imaging system, purpose-built for the most demanding subsea missions. This is more than just a camera; it's a revolutionary tool for exploration, research, and filmmaking.
At the core of the MxD's innovative design is a custom Sony HDC-50 compact broadcast camera. This system delivers the performance of a full-sized studio setup, with a 2/3” class 3-CMOS global shutter optical block that provides superior sensitivity and sharpness. It supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) and the full BT.2020 color space, giving you a future-proof, no-compromise platform.
The imaging power is enhanced by a best-in-class Canon CJ15ex4.3 wide-angle zoom lens. With 15x magnification, it captures a massive 96° horizontal field of view. This is paired with a custom 4-element dome port corrector cell, eliminating distortion and ensuring crystal-clear performance from close-up shots to vast, distant views.
Engineered for extreme depths, the MxD SeaCam features a custom-built titanium housing and a borosilicate dome. This robust construction ensures reliable operation down to 4,000 meters, with an optional upgrade to a staggering 7,000 meters thanks to a patent-pending design that has been proven across thousands of pressure cycles.
A single fiber optic interface integrates video uplinks and camera controls into an embedded telemetry system. This connects to a top-side hub, delivering industry-standard 12G-SDI video and familiar remote camera and lens controls for seamless operation. The MxD SeaCam redefines what's possible in underwater imaging, giving you the power to see the deep like never before.
For over 40 years, DeepSea has been making rugged subsea cameras, lights, relief valves, and power solutions for exploring the harshest environments in the ocean. DeepSea began out of founder Mark Olsson’s garage and today, as part of SeeScan Inc., develops cutting-edge technology to provide unparalleled visibility to the world underground and below the water’s surface.
