Density Bottles Demonstration

Side by side bottles with floating beads show differences between fresh and salt water
Credit
Ocean Exploration Trust

Ocean water is more dense than pure water because of its salinity, or salt content within a given volume of water. Temperature also plays a role in how dense water may be -- the colder the water, the denser it becomes.

Use this demonstration to provide a visual reference for students learning about density.
