Richard Sullivan
In 2009 Richard was awarded his MSc in Maritime Archaeology from the UK’s University of Southampton. Coupled with the experience he gained in marine geophysics and Geographic Information Systems working as a hydrographer with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Richard is well prepared for any underwater archaeology projects. Devoted to exploring the relationship between past cultural remains and the natural processes at work in the sea, previous research projects have included the laboratory modelling of wreck scour under bidirectional flow conditions, a geophysical survey into the elements of a submerged landscape, and the excavation of a 17th century cargo vessel sunk within Britain’s Ax River. The 2010 survey season marks Richard’s first cruise aboard an Institute for Exploration vessel.
