Erik Hodges
Tell us about your work/research. What kinds of things do you do?
I have worked with many different types of ROVs on many different types of projects throughout the World with a lot of good people.
What element of your work/study do you think is the most fascinating?
I really enjoy meeting the objectives of the scientists so they can further the study of the ocean and its biosphere in their particular field. I rarely get to see/know the results of their research, but the excitement they have when they get what they are looking for is special.
What other jobs led to your current career?
I was a mechanical/electrical scale technician and computer consultant/technician in another lifetime.
What advice would you give someone who wants to have a career like yours?
The devil is in the details. Look where no one else looks for potential problems. Watch and learn what to do as well as what not to do. Be personable and don't take it all too serious. This job has it's problems and bad days but it can be a lot of fun along the way.
