Coral Site 1 Dive Highlights June 22, 2013
This is a highlight album of our dive on June 22, 2013. Hercules and Argus were exploring one of the best studied site for coral. Both soft and hard deep water corals were photographed and a few corals were collected to study further on shore. The scientists are looking at how these corals change over time when the environments change. We also found some other interesting sea life during our exploration!
Ecosystem Impacts of Oil and Gas Inputs to the Gulf (ECOGIG)
The ECOGIG expedition is part of a larger research program focused on examining the ecosystem-level response to oil and gas in the Gulf of Mexico. This research group, the ECOGIG Consortium, is made up of scientists from a wide variety of disciplines studying current flow, ocean chemistry, microbial activity, deep-sea coral communities, and everything in between.
