Nautilus Field Guide: Chaunacops Anglerfish

The Nautilus Field Guide series is here to take you on a nerdy deep dive into the remarkable animals that call the deep sea home.  If you love deep-sea creatures, marine biology fun facts, or just saying “what is THAT?”—this series is for you.

In this episode, you’ll learn all about our favorite grumpy, yet oddly charming, anglerfish- Chaunacops! Known for their opposing frowny faces and cheerful pink color, these deep-sea fish are adapted to be seafloor “sit-and-wait” predators. Despite their stealth, we’ve been lucky enough to spot a number of these adorable anglerfish while exploring around the world, and look forward to hopefully seeing many more in the future.
