Tell us about your work/research. What kinds of things do you do?

I specialize in marine equipment qualifications, in particular CTD's. I have a background in electronic repair and assembly.

What sparked your initial interest in your career?

I began my career with an interest in electronics, mainly audio / video equipment. After working in the consumer electronics repair business I transitioned to assembling and repairing marine sensing equipment. I have always loved the ocean and cannot imagine being to far away from it.

Who influenced you or encouraged you the most?

My parents were and still are my biggest influencers. They taught me to respect the environment at an early age. They always encouraged me to complete whatever I started. I have that dogged determination to this day.

What element of your work/study do you think is the most fascinating?

I get great satisfaction from finding and repairing anything. I enjoy the sleuthing involved, the history learned, and the exhilaration of solving the problem.

How did you get involved with the Ocean Exploration Trust?

I was was given the opportunity to be part of the Ocean Networks Canada team, something I am looking forward to.

What other jobs led you to your current career?

I have worked at a high-end audio store as an electronics technician for many years. An opportunity to work with marine equipment was very appealing.

What are your degrees and certifications?

I have an electronics technician certificate from Camosun College.

What are your hobbies?

I enjoy fishing, camping, biking, and just spending time on my boat. I have played many team sports such as soccer, rugby, and hockey which I continue to play. I spend (too much) time building Arduino and Raspberry pi projects as well as designing and 3D printing "gadgets".

What advice would you give someone who wants to have a career like yours?

For any career, continue to learn. You can always take something useful from one field and apply it to another.
