Tell us about your work/ research. What kinds of things do you do?
I am passionate about exploring natural wonders and understanding the dynamic interactions between human activity and nature. I enjoy constructing innovative technology devices to conduct research and gaining insights into the impacts of our surroundings. My curiosity drives me to discover the delicate balance between our environment and human influence, using technology as a tool to learn and protect our world.
What sparked your initial interest in your career?
As a teacher, having a strong desire to influence the next generation positively and contribute to their understanding of the world and its challenges has led me to take this path.
Who influenced you or encouraged you the most?
My career's most significant influences and encouragements have come from a diverse and supportive community. My formal and recent school leader(s), mentors, and instructors from various courses have provided invaluable guidance and inspiration. Colleagues and students have continuously motivated me through their engagement and curiosity. Above all, my family has been my strongest source of support, encouraging me to pursue my passion for teaching and exploration. Their collective influence has shaped my career and fueled my dedication to making a positive impact in education.
What element of your work/ study do you think is the most fascinating?
Seeing my students' curiosity ignite and their enthusiasm grow as they explore various topics is incredibly rewarding. Furthermore, conducting experiments and finding unexpected results through scientific methods is very exciting.
How did you get involved with the Nautilus Exploration Program?
I got involved with Ocean Exploration Trust by applying for fellowship and internships after receiving an email notification from the National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa coordinator. I wasn't sure what program would be the best fit for me but knew I was very intersted. This opportunity allowed me to apply and join the expedition team. Additionally, I enhance my knowledge through online professional development focused on deep-sea exploration, which further supports my role with the Trust.
What other jobs led you to your current career?
Before my current career, I worked with the Technology Information team. In this role, I conducted professional development for teachers, administrators, and support staff, focusing on integrating technology into learning. This experience honed my skills in educational technology and supported my transition into teaching and exploration.

What are your hobbies?
My hobbies include playing sports for exercise, playing musical instruments, spending quality time with my kids, ministering to the youth, and exploring technology.
What advice would you give someone who wants to have a career like yours?
To pursue a career like mine, always seek improvement, cultivate a passionate heart, and maintain a positive mindset.
What excites me most about participating in a deep ocean exploration mission is the opportunity to uncover the mysteries of the deep sea and gain firsthand insights into uncharted marine environments.
