Tell us about your work/ research. What kinds of things do you do?

As an engineer on the field services team at Ocean Networks Canada, I design and maintain physical infrastructure necessary for collecting ocean data. This includes subsea platforms, pressure vessels, and moorings.

What sparked your initial interest in your career?

Having grown up with it nearby, the ocean has always been an important part of my life. While studying mechanical engineering in university I had the opportunity to complete two terms at Ocean Networks Canada as a co-op student. This exposure piqued my interest in oceanography, and the engineering challenges that come along with it.

Who influenced you or encouraged you the most?

My friends in university. It was very encouraging to go through the program with a group of friends who were as interested in mechanical engineering as I was.

What element of your work/ study do you think is the most fascinating?

It is fascinating that data we collect come from such extreme and remote environments. I suppose that's why we do it!

How did you get involved with Ocean Exploration Trust? How did you become part of the expedition team?

Through my employment at Ocean Networks Canada.

What other jobs led you to your current career?

This is my first position post university. I feel fortunate to begin my career in this exciting field.

What are your degrees and certifications?

Bachelor of Engineering - University of Victoria 2023

What are your hobbies?

I like to play music, sports, and swim in the ocean!

What advice would you give someone who wants to have a career like yours?

Take advantage of opportunities that come your way and try your best.
