Lana Ashkar is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Marine Geology at the Leon H. Charney School of Marine Sciences, University of Haifa, Israel. Her research is on the Akhziv sub-marine canyon off northern Israel, focusing on the geomorphology and sediment transporting from the continental shelf within the canyon to the deep sea. She has a B.Sc. degree in Geology from the Department of Earth Sciences, the Hebrew University and her Master's degree thesis was on the morphotectonics of the Carmel Fault, a NW branch of the Dead Sea fault in northern Israel.

Lana is working in the Geological Survey of Israel and taking part in processing and archiving data from SISCAL project (Satellite-based Information System on Coastal Areas and Lakes) in Israel at the Israel Oceanographic and Limenological Research Institute (IOLR).
