Knut Terje Ulvund
Tell us about your work/ research. What kinds of things do you do?
I participate in developing and managing sonar systems from the Kongsberg Discovery "Mapping Product Line". Currently, my main occupation is on the embedded end of the products, but during my career, I have been involved in most aspects of the products. This is not the first time I have taken part in sea activities with our products in action.
What sparked your initial interest in your career?
A genuine interest and curiosity for technology and science in practical use.
Who influenced you or encouraged you the most?
My upbringing among technologists, as well as my teacher in high school physics, and not to forget the scouts!
What element of your work/ study do you think is the most fascinating?
To explore the still-quite-unknown underwater environment using sound.
How did you get involved with the Nautilus Exploration Program?
OET installed a new KONGSBERG EM304 system in 2026; I'm happy to be able to help support its implementation, mapping the ocean.
What other jobs led you to your current career?
I previously worked at the Norwegian HQ of Defense.
What are your degrees and certifications?
Bachelor of Science in Cybernetics & Bachelor degree in Business and Administration
What are your hobbies?
I am quite fond of mountaineering, love the glaciers and open landscapes. Fill in with some geocaching. I also act as a Radio Amateur now and then.
