Hiroaki Saito is a hydrographer and geodesy officer from Hydrographic and Oceanographic Department of the Japan Coast Guard (JHOD). Hiroaki was monitoring the plate movement of the seafloor around offshore plate boundary regions in Japan using GPS and a transducer on a survey ship.

Hiroaki received an M.S. degree in Environmental Engineering from Japan’s Kyoto University in 2007. Since August 2010, Hiroaki has participated in the GEBCO/NIPPON Foundation training program for the certificate of ‘Category A hydrographer’, at the Center for Coastal & Ocean Mapping/Joint Hydrographic Center in New Hampshire majoring in Ocean Mapping.
