Tell us about your work/research. What kinds of things do you do?
Physical Oceanography, Marine Technology including robotics.
What sparked your initial interest in your career?
Always interested in STEM.
Who influenced you or encouraged you the most?
I was lucky to have many influential people in my life to encourage me to pursue a career in science and technology.
What element of your work/study do you think is the most fascinating?
I enjoy challenges.
How did you get involved with the Ocean Exploration Trust?
Sailing on the Nautilus allows our group to continue pursuing scientific research in Palau that was initiated in 2010 and has been ongoing.
What other jobs led you to your current career?
Undergraduate internships at University of Hawaii and Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
What are your degrees and certifications?
B.S. Engineering, Ph.D. Physical Oceanography - Applied Ocean Sciences. Schools attended: University of New South Wales, UC San Diego, Scripps Institution of Oceanography. A few decades of SCUBA and undersea research experience.
What are your hobbies?
outrigger canoe paddling, surfing, cycling
What advice would you give someone who wants to have a career like yours?
Play team sports so you learn to collaboratively interact with others. Take every math, computer, physics, and engineering class you can.
