Prior to Geo Prose, Ellen worked for 12 years at Joint Oceanographic Institutions as a manager for the international Ocean Drilling Program. Her graduate and postdoctoral work was on mid-ocean ridge tectonics, using side-scan sonar, deep-sea photography, and submersible observations.

Ellen Kappel (Berman) graduated Cornell University in 1980 with a bachelor's degree in geology. Ellen completed her PhD in 1985 in marine geology and geophysics from the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University.

"I am very excited about being on board a ship after a roughly 25-year hiatus. I've been on more than a dozen oceanographic cruises, but in the "old days." I am thrilled to be able to work with and see first hand all of the new underwater and communications technologies. I am also excited about communicating with young people about the science."

Expeditions

Ellen Kappel participated in the following expeditions aboard E/V Nautilus.
