Denney Eddward Hynds Bodden

Describe your work onboard the ship. What are your responsibilities? 

I serve onboard the vessel as a motorman, providing maintenance, and repairing any equipment in the machinery spaces as needed. My time is divided standing watched with an engineer of the watch 8 hours a day. 

What part of your work do you like the most?

I am interested in how mechanical equipment works, especially thinking about how their interiors are assembled. During the offseason it's interesting to perform overhauling jobs of the main equipment, which help the vessel move ahead overall.

What other jobs led you to your current career? 

I've always worked as a sailor in the international merchant marine field. I started this work in early adulthood and have continued since.

What are your hobbies?

Playing soccer, listening to music, and I enjoy going to the movies.

What advice would you give someone who wants to have a career like yours?

Take advantage of and make the most of any opportunity you get. You really don't know where might it bring you!

What sparked your initial interest in a career working at-sea?

Working at sea has given me the chance to provide a better life for my beloved family. I'm very proud of that.
