Athanasios Godelitsas

Athanasios is an assistant professor of mineralogy and mineral chemistry at University of Athens (UoA, Greece) as well as visiting professor of environmental mineralogy and geochemistry at Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). His recent research themes include mineral surfaces, nanoporous minerals, nanogeoscience, biomineralogy and environmental mineralogy and geochemistry. For this purpose he is mainly using electron and atomic force microscopies, surface analytical techniques and accelerator/Synchrotron‐based spectroscopies. Before joining the academia, Athanasios had worked as laboratory geochemist and quality assurance/quality control manager in international mining companies.      

Athanasios graduated from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) in 1989 with a degree in geology and then earned a PhD in chemistry, from the same University, within a frame of a European Union program in collaboration with the University of Manchester (ex‐UMIST, UK). He elaborated his post‐doc (2000‐2004) in the group of Professor Andrew Putnis at the University of Muenster (Germany).
