Alexandra Wen
Alexandra Wen is a junior at Plano West Senior High School in Plano, Texas. She has been interested in marine science since elementary school. In high school, she has entered independent research projects in regional and statewide competition and is a member of her school’s LASER science club. Her various projects have involved research into ocean acidity and its effects on marine calcifiers, the effect of anthropogenic CO2 on ocean noise, and the genome size evolution of ostracoda. She volunteers at local area hospitals, health fairs, and food banks.
Alexandra Wen is junior at Plano West Senior High School, where she takes a full range of advanced humanities, natural science and social science courses. While she aspires to be a marine scientist, she appreciates the humanist and societal aspects of her education.
"I am honored to have been selected for the Honors Research Program. It is not an exaggeration to say that this experience would be my ideal summer as I have aspired to work “near or in the ocean” since I can remember. I am so lucky to have the opportunity to sail on Nautilus with an esteemed group of scientists and researchers, and I can hardly wait!"
