Sharks, Skates, and Ghost Sharks in the Channel Islands
Just in time for Shark Week, the team aboard E/V Nautilus has encountered many sharks, skates, and relatives like ghost sharks (aka chimaeras) while exploring submerged shorelines around the Channel Islands. This protected region near one of the most populous areas of Southern California is known for its dramatic, remote landscapes and stunning biodiversity--preserved on land as Channel Islands National Park, and underwater as Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. Click through to learn more about the species and behavior we spotted from cameras aboard ROV Hercules and ROV Argus!
