Ancient Amphora of Shipwreck Knidos A- 2009

We're celebrating our 15th anniversary and looking back at memorable moments from expeditions in the archive. In 2009, our exploration of the Aegean Sea along the coasts of Greece and Turkey led to some fantastic archeological discoveries. Here in the Knidos region, we explore a Byzantine shipwreck from the 6th century A.D. Look closely at the amphora (ancient ceramic containers) left on the seafloor as the footprint of this shipwreck long after the wooden ship has disappeared. These storage containers usually contained valued products such as olive oil, grain, or wine.
