The Video Engineer is responsible for keeping track of all of the many video feeds that come to the ship from both ROVs and ensuring that they are working properly and meet rigorous quality standards. They ensure that the ROV pilots, scientists onboard and ashore, and everyone watching around the world receive the best possible view of the amazing seascapes captured by the ROV cameras. They are also in charge of making sure that all of the video is recorded and saved so scientists have a full visual record of everything that occurred during each dive.
While the Lead Video Engineer typically has many years of experience in broadcast video operations, one watch is staffed by a video engineering intern. They are often an undergraduate or graduate student studying video production or broadcast engineering.
