Hercules Pilot

Part of the operations team, the Hercules pilot takes charge of the Nautilus's primary remotely operated vehicle during a watch. Depending on the needs of any partiular watch their duties could include flying the ROV between sites, using its onboard mapping equipment, collecting samples, and/or using Hercules' many tools to collect a variety of scientific data The Hercules pilot must stay in constant communication with the Argus pilot, the Navigator and the Watch Leader so that they can effectively accomplish all the scientific goals for the watch while making sure that the vehicles are safe, can complete the dive, and can return back to the ship. 

The Hercules pilot often has several years of ROV training and an education in some form of engineering. Many of the Hercules pilots on Nautilus started out as undergraduate students who were selected through our
