Oscar Pizarro received the Engineer's degree in electronic engineering from the Universidad de Concepcion, Concepcion, Chile, in 1997, and the MSc OE/EECS (2003) and Ph.D. degree in oceanographic engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Joint Program, Woods Hole, MA, in 2005. He is currently a research fellow at the Australian Centre for Field Robotics, University of Sydney, Australia.

Oscar's research is focused on underwater imaging, robotic underwater vehicles and automated interpretation of underwater imagery. He is also part of Australia's Integrated Marine Observing System AUV Facility, which is charged with high resolution habitat mapping and monitoring throughout the Australian shelf.
