Dara Dawson is an Educator-at-Sea onboard the E/V Nautilus.

Dara has been teaching for 18 years and sponsors student travel programs each school year. Destinationswhere she has taken her students to do science and learn about other cultures are: Baja, the Arctic, Costa Rica, Chesapeake Bay, and the Desert Southwest. Dara believes that students learn best by doing and investigating their own questions. She has been a JASON Teacher Argonaut in Hawaii where the Argonaut team studied aa and pahoehoe lava flows on Kilauea in 2001.

Dara graduated from Appalachian State University in 1984 with a degree in Elementary Education (grades 4-9) and a minor in Mathematics. In 2003, she received an M.S. in Geoscience from Mississippi State University.
